Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Overview:

Design and Display

The Galaxy S22 Ultra departs from its predecessors and the rest of the S22 lineup by adopting a square-shaped design and an entirely new camera housing. This design shift distinguishes it from both its predecessor and the rest of the S22 series.

Compared to its forerunner, the S22 Ultra introduces a square design and a completely revamped camera housing. Unlike the S21 Ultra, which supports the S-Pen externally, the S22 Ultra features a built-in compartment for the stylus. This S-Pen boasts 70% less latency than the S-Pen on the Note 20 Ultra, specifically reducing the input latency from 9ms to just 2.8ms.

On the front, it showcases a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a QHD+ resolution, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 1750 nits. Unlike the other two devices in the series, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's display curves at both edges.

This display introduces a new feature called "Vision Promoter," which enhances screen visibility based on the surrounding light intensity. In gaming mode, you can increase the touch scanning rate to 240Hz. Additionally, the device is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus+ on both the front and back.

The S22 Ultra is IP68-certified for dust and water resistance and comes in four color options — Ghost Black, Ghost White, Green, and Burgundy.

Performance

At its core, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 processor.

This chipset is paired with 8 or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and offers up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. In terms of software, it runs on Android 12-based OneUI 4, and Samsung has committed to providing 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security patches.

Camera

Contrary to early rumors suggesting an Olympus-branded 200MP penta-camera setup, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra comes equipped with a quad-camera system on the back. Leading the array is a high-performance 108MP primary sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). This is accompanied by a 10MP periscope zoom lens with 10x optical zoom and another 10MP periscope lens with 3x digital zoom. Finally, there's a 12MP super wide-angle lens with a 120° field-of-view (FOV).

Both the primary and ultrawide lenses are now covered by Really Clear Glass, designed to reduce lens flare. On the front, the device features a 40MP sensor within a punch-hole cutout. Additionally, the S22 Ultra boasts a 2.4um pixel sensor, which is Samsung's largest pixel sensor to date, capturing more light.

Introducing a feature called Adaptive Pixel, the camera dynamically switches between 12.5MP and 108MP based on the surrounding light conditions. It has the ability to capture shots simultaneously in both modes and merge the results for enhanced photos.

Early reports suggest that the Samsung S22 Ultra offers a plethora of new camera software features. The launch event showcased features like Detail Enhancer, Auto Framerate, and Super Night Sequence. Since then, Samsung has also introduced capabilities for capturing "Astrophotos" and multi-exposure shots in Pro Raw and Camera Assistant through software updates.

Rest of the specs

Powering the device is a robust 5000mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging. Additionally, it is equipped with 15W wireless charging capabilities and supports Wireless Power Share, allowing the device to act as a wireless charger for other compatible devices. For biometrics, the device features an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
